How to Find a Physical Therapist Through NPPES

June 12, 2026

Physical therapists (PTs) help patients recover from injury, surgery, and illness by restoring movement and function. They're registered in NPPES like all healthcare providers who submit claims electronically, making them searchable through DoctorDataHub.

What Physical Therapists Treat

PTs treat musculoskeletal injuries (sprains, strains, fractures), post-surgical rehabilitation (knee replacement, rotator cuff repair), chronic pain conditions, neurological conditions (stroke, Parkinson's), vestibular disorders (dizziness, balance), pelvic floor dysfunction, and sports performance. They use therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, modalities, and education.

PT Credentials

Modern physical therapists hold a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree — a clinical doctorate. Older PTs may have MSPT (master's) or RPT/LPT credentials depending on when they trained and what state they practice in. All are licensed by their state physical therapy board and registered in NPPES.

Finding PTs on DoctorDataHub

Physical therapists are classified under several NUCC taxonomy codes depending on their specialty (general PT, sports, pediatric, geriatric, cardiopulmonary, etc.). Browse the specialty index to find the physical therapy taxonomy category, then filter by your state. You can also use the search page to search by therapist name or location.
